Planning your outfits for any photoshoot can be a tad stressful with the pressure of choosing something picture perfect.

Through this post you’ll learn my top tips on styling outfits for your family so you’ll know exactly what to wear for a Christmas photoshoot.

Christmas is such a fun and festive time of year, you’ll see a lot or reds, greens and tartan sprinkled around pretty much wherever you go and even in your own home once the Christmas decorations go up.

1. When planning your outfits for your Christmas photoshoot take into consideration the colours in the background of the photoshoot.

For example in the Kitchen set from my Magical Theme its darker and warmer in tones, meaning that black tops work really well (and are super easy to get hold of any time of year)

Red also works really well and pulls out some of the details in the background whilst making sure the children are the star of the show.

Alternatively, with a lighter background, you can go with lighter colours like creams and golds. This set is part of the Wonderland Theme I'm offering for Christmas photoshoots this year.

Or again you can go with detail colours like red, and get festive with tartan.

2. Take into consideration the story of the image.

Sitting in a window at nighttime watching Santa Clause fly across the sky is such a magical idea, we've all read The Night before Christmas. Typically at this time children would be in their Pj’s which fits with the story telling of this image. Because of the red colour of the curtains, a red tartan pjs/tops or red dress would work really well.

Or if the children are outside in a snowy scene with a reindeer, it would make sense to be wearing coats, jumpers and boots.

3. If you are styling siblings or family outfits, lay the clothes out on your bed so you can see them side by side to see if they compliment each other, or you can go for matching outfits which always look amazing. Have you seen the personalised tops the Coynes siblings wore during their Christmas photoshoot?

4. You can ask for help, your photographer will be more than willing to help you with styling as they want you to have photos you will be over the moon with. I’m always to chat outfits with clients as I know they are excited for their photoshoot and care about the results. I send outfit recommendations in confirmation emails clients receive upon booking their photoshoots. I also chat about outfits on my social media, I recently asked which outfits people would choose to find out what’s popular, here are the results from a recent poll:
